    Introduction:

     

    A4988 is a complete micro-step motor driver with built-in converter, easy to operate. The product can operate bipolar stepping motors in full, half, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16 step modes, and the output drive performance can reach 35 V and ± 1 A. A4988 includes a fixed turn-off time current regulator, which can operate in slow or mixed attenuation mode. The converter is the key to the easy implementation of A4988. As long as a pulse is input in the "step" input, the motor can be driven to generate micro-step. No phase sequence table, high frequency control line or complex interface programming is required. The A4988 interface is very suitable for complex microprocessor unavailable or overloaded applications.

     

    During microstep operation, the chopper control in A4988 can automatically select the current attenuation mode (slow or mixed). In the mixed attenuation mode, the device is initially set to decay rapidly in part of the fixed downtime, and then decay slowly in the rest of the downtime. The hybrid attenuating current control scheme can reduce the audible motor noise, increase the step progress and reduce the power consumption. Internal synchronous rectification control circuit is provided to improve power consumption during pulse width modulation (PWM) operation. Internal circuit protection includes thermal shutdown with hysteresis, undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and cross current protection. No special power-on sequence is required.

     

    A4988 adopts surface mount QFN package (ES), with the size of 5 mm × 5 mm, nominal overall package height is 0.90 mm, and with exposed heat dissipation plate to enhance heat dissipation function. The package is lead-free (suffix – T), and the pin frame is plated with fog tin.

    3. 4-layer PCB board, better heat dissipation performance.

    4. The chip has smaller internal resistance, lower heat generation and better heat dissipation.
